Air Filtration

"Indoor Air Quality" (IAQ) is a buzzword today. It's hard not to notice news items warning of the dangerous airborne contaminants present in all homes. Breathing has become a potentially dangerous proposition in our indoor environments.

It's time to do something about indoor air quality and the place to start is your home. The Environmental Protection Agency has stated that the air inside your home may be 10 to 70 times more polluted than the outside air.

The Problem: The air in our home is filled with dust, dander, mites, pet hair, pollen, fungus spores, tobacco smoke, bacteria, and other airborne particles - it's a fact of life. Ducted heating systems and drafts only help to circulate these pollutants throughout your home. During the course of a day, an adult breathes in the equivalent of two heaping tablespoons of these airborne particles. Some of these particles may cause allergies, some may be carcinogenic, all put a burden on your body's immune system

In new homes, the danger is from off-gassing of the various construction materials that are used in the building. In older homes, the dust, dander, mites and pollens are blown throughout the building by the existing ducted air heating system.

Recent research has shown that electronic air cleaners (which are installed in many homes) are far less effective than their manufacturers' claims. They need constant cleaning and create significant amounts of ozone. Recent EPA studies show that ozone reacts chemically with internal body tissues, such as those in the lungs.

Constant exposure to ozone can cause shortness of breath, coughing, nausea, headaches, sneezing, eye and throat irritation, and lung damage.

A common reaction is that many of us will postpone or deny that a problem exists. Most of us don't want to admit the existence of an air quality problem in our homes. It is easy to deny, but it is reality.

Don't you want your family breathing the best possible air?
